Supply/Substitute Teacher

Job Summary

Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School is seeking supply teachers for JK through Grade 10, English and French, and encourage you to apply.

Please apply if you already:
1. Are entitled to legally work in Canada, and
2. Reside in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, or able to relocate on your own without any assistance from the school.


We are a private, not-for-profit Kindergarten to grade Eight school, operating since 2002, located in Ottawa, with about 160 students population.

The school, comprising of students, teachers and parents, promotes spiritual and moral values that are consistent with those in the Canadian society.
Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School offers a curriculum that meets and goes beyond the Ontario Ministry of Education academic goals and standards.Year after year, the school has consistently surpassed the EQAO testing standards in Reading, Writing & Mathematics in comparison to the Ontario provincial schools average.

Responsibilities and Duties

This works on on-call as-needed basis, whereby supply teachers are called to check their availability to teach when full time or part time teachers call in sick or have emergencies. This call can come in days before or morning of.

Supply teachers do not have to come up with lesson plans. They simply follow lesson plans left for them by the teacher they are replacing.

Working hours: 8:00 - 3:00.
Supply teacher expected to be on-site: 7:45 - 3:20.

Teachers are expected to follow our published dress code policy.
For female teachers, that includes wearing head covering (a scarf or hijab) and long sleeves. This is in keeping with the teachings of Islam. The school reimburses teachers for the purchase of two hijabs per year.
There are non-Muslim teachers on staff who follow the dress code whenever they are on school-related duties.

Qualifications and Skills

Only Applicants residing in the National Capital Region (Ottawa and surrounding Areas) AND those who are [already] legally entitled to work in Canada will be Considered.
Applicants must meet professional teacher education requirements.
Experience: Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
Education: Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
Licence: ECE, OCT, or other teaching accreditation (Preferred)
Language: English (Required), French (Preferred), Arabic (Preferred)
A criminal check may be required.

Benefits

Supply teachers with good standing and good performance become favorable candidates for full time hiring when such a position opens.
Pay rate: $130.00 per day
